Mass Memoirs : Sharing leftovers vs true charitable giving..

 Hey everyone!

I hope you are all feeling as amazing as I am in the run up to Christmas 2015. This holiday season, I’m basking in the sun surrounded by family, friends and good food! In light of this, I’m feeling extra grateful for life and the joy that this year has brought me, regardless of whatever difficulties I faced. In my opinion, the grace of God brought me right to this point and I couldn’t be more thankful. Experience has taught me that as much as you may want to take all the credit for your successes and triumphs, there has to be something greater than you that prepares your prosperity and enables your safety as you weather the storm we call life.

In the spirit of gratitude, I wanted to share one important lesson I learned at Mass (Catholic word for Church/Service) this year – what it truly means to give of yourself in service of others.

The homily was based on the story of the woman who gave all she had, found in the gospel of Mark.

Mark 12:41-44

The Widow’s Offering

41 Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42 But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents.

43 Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44 They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.”

The scripture above speaks for itself really, but I want to invite everyone – Christian or not, to consider what it means for YOU. Whether you believe in Jesus, or you believe in being charitable to others, there is simply no escaping the strength of this message.

“The question isn’t who’s going to let me, it’s who is going to stop me” – Ayn Rand

Hey hey!

I don’t think it would be right for me to start this post with the same apology I so carefully crafted at the beginning of my last one; it would be an insult to your intelligence. No – I wasn’t too busy, or too stressed to write. It really wasn’t that. So much has happened since the last time I put out a blog post, and as such I have been torn about what to share.

A few days ago, a friend of mine asked me to take a step further on this blog, and come out of the shadow of my television shows. She tried to be nice about it, but what she the really meant was  – share your opinion on social or personal issues unashamedly! You pretty much already do, you just try to soften the strength of your message by using television series to make your content more light hearted, and you don’t really need to do that.

I won’t lie, I was pretty defensive when she told me – I started explaining why I preferred to combine my opinion with television, and mix my more serious ideologies with the light hearted nature of TV shows. On reflection, I realized that she had a point. I’m no expert, but I am selling myself short if I have some point of view to explore and share, and I dumb it down (so-to-speak) in order to appear less strongly opinionated.

“Check your white privilege” – the quote that is a lesson to us all

Hey hey!

Sorry for the somewhat lengthy hiatus – This past week has been extremely tasking and full of challenges. Thankfully, things are quieter and I can share my thoughts on last week’s episode of Greys Anatomy.

I know that I shouldn’t play favourites considering that I try to portray an objective point of view, but Grey’s is MY show. I’ve pretty much been ‘ride or die’ for the show since its first season – talk about dedication!

And it deserves every bit of my dedication; believe you me. Grey’s has three special elements that connect me so closely to it- The perfect blend of medical mystery and daring drama, the loveable nature of the characters, and it’s believability.

At this juncture, Im sure you’re all wondering why this is my first post on Grey’s, and to be honest, the answer is simple.

Fear.

Over the years, I have learned so much from Grey’s that I’m worried I will be unable to convey the intricacies and details of its lessons to others based on their innate complexity. So like the mere mortal I am, I have been running from it…Until now.

Question : What does ‘The Good Wife’ really stand for?

Hey hey!

Hope everyone is having a largely pleasant week so far! This post should be relatively short because I really think the content will speak for itself – but I’d rather not preempt considering I am known to express myself extensively via this medium *hides*.

Today’s topic – good ol’ ‘The Good Wife’. When I first became a TV show addict, I was more focused on shows with hardly any intellectual content such as Beverley Hills 90210 (I’m referring to the original one with Tori Spelling, not the new age version with ‘Silver’ and ‘Annie’ on TV today – and if you like that one, I promise I’m only half judging) and Days of our Lives. They fell in the Soap Opera category, (I actually have no idea what that really means) and they were pretty much focused on love and betrayal, with no hints of intellectual drama whatsoever.

Naturally, I would say that I thank God for the evolution of television since this time, considering there are so many more shows with intellectual value to bring balance the myriad of shows that are simply for our entertainment.
